Walter Fleet

Walter Fleet was born in Moore on 6 July 1896. His parents were Thomas and Ann and they lived in a cottage on Moss Lane, Moore. Walter had a brother and sister – John Rowland b1895 (who also served in WW1) and Florence b1900. Thomas was a foreman plate layer on the L&NW Railway. In 1911, Walter was an errand boy.

He joined the Royal Engineers, service number 342262, but nothing more is known about his military service.

After the war, he returned home and in 1931 married Annie J Hankey. The 1939 register records the family living in Canalside Cottages. Annie’s sister, Sarah E was living with them. Walter was a fitter and turner. It appears that they had no children.

No definite record has been found of Walter’s death.
