Oswald Philip Thomas
Oswald was born on 5 February1896 in Atcham just outside Shrewsbury. He was baptised on 5 April 1896 at All Saints’, Hoole. His parents were Edward and Jane Elizabeth. Edward was the station master at Little Stretton and they lived in the station house.
The family moved to Moore between 1901 and 1911, when Edward was appointed as station master at Daresbury.
Oswald joined the railway on 29 September 1910 as a junior porter in Warrington, earning just 7/- a week. This rose to 9/- the following year.
He was a sergeant in the Royal Field Artillery, service number 25597, but we have no further information.
By 1920, he was living back at home and then married Lucy Plumpton from Sandhurst, Moore, in December 1926. The 1939 register shows that they had a daughter, Sally, born on 5 December 1931. They were living at 25 Townfield Lane, Frodsham and Oswald was a railway clerk.
