John’s name does not appear on the Roll of Honour in Daresbury Church, but he does appear on the absent voters lists for 1919 and 1920. He is recored as being in the Cheshire Regiment, service number 77005.
John Woodward was born in 1899 at Fir Grove Farm, Whitley. He was the son of Sandy and Mary Woodward. In 1911, he was living at Village Farm, Moore, where Sandy was a farmer. He had three siblings – Peter b1896, Albert b1897 and Alec b1907. Peter also served in the armed forces in WW1.
