Harry Stanley Jones

Harry was born on the 5th April 1890 in Preston on the Hill and was the son of Thomas Henry and Esther Ann Jones. His father was a clerk for the canal company and had been born around 1866 in Wilmslow. His mother, Esther Webb had been born around 1864 in Preston Brook.

By 1901 Harry was living with his grand-parents, Luke and Elizabeth Jones, and his aunt, Charlotte Amelia Jones. They lived in Chester Road in Sutton. His grandfather worked as a clerk for the canal company and by 1911 Harry was also working as a clerk for the canal company.

On the 30th November 1915 Harry joined the Royal Flying Corps (service number 406027).

When Harry was 28 years old he married Nellie Walker in the Primitive Methodist Chapel in Barnton on the 6th July 1918. He was working as a clerk again and lived in Meadowslea in Aston. Nellie had been born on the 6th May 1892 in Eddisbury. She was the eldest of three daughters born to William and Esther Walker. Her father was a forest labourer and by 1901 he was a timber merchant. In 1911 Nellie was living in Eddisbury Lodge with her uncle and aunt, Denis and Sarah Walker.

By 1939 Harry and Nellie were living in Meadowbank, 12 Lodge Lane, Halton and Harry was now a clerk with the Dock and Canal Company.

Nellie died on the 21st July 1951 and Harry continued living in Lodge Lane until his death on the 11th May 1984 when he was aged 94 years old.
