Leonard Reginald Slee was born at Cheltenham in Gloucestershire in 1919, the son of William and Priscilla Slee (nee Peart). He was the next to youngest child of thirteen siblings, ten boys and three girls. His eldest brother was killed in the Great War the year before Leonard was born. His father was a farm labourer who had been born in Devon and his mother was from Gloucestershire.
It is not known when he moved to Cheshire, nor where he was living when war broke out in 1939. His parents were still living in Cheltenham.
In 1943 he married Gladys Walmsley who had been born at Stretton and whose family lived in Hatton. They set up home in Hatton.
Leonard served in the RAF as a corporal with the service number 547106.
Leonard and Gladys had two daughters, in 1944 and 1946.
Leonard’s father passed away in 1947 and his mother in 1952 in Gloucestershire.
Leonard Reginald Slee passed away in 1976 at the age of 56 years, Gladys passing away 26 years later in 2000.
