Keckwick Ford was the crossing point for Keckwick Brook at the point where it joined the marsh edge and later, the main Warrington to Runcorn Road. The name Keckwickford, is derived from Kirke (church), Wick (settlement), Ford (crossing), hence Keckwickford. The site of the church is the subject of speculation. There were Saxon chapels at Daresbury and Norton and there may have been one at Keckwick, but it would have been constructed of wood and hence no remains have been discovered.
The ford was probably near the site of the old Keckwick Ford farm, where the brook runs underneath the Daresbury expressway by the Manor Park roundabout.
