Edward Smith was born on 6th July 1915 at Stockton Heath, the son of Herbert Smith, who was born at Stretton, and his wife Jessie (nee Dutton), who was born at Daresbury. He had a twin brother called Horace and an older brother called Herbert Arthur who was born in 1912.
The 1921 Census recorded the family as living at 24, Brackley Street in Stockton Heath. All the boys were at school. Their father was employed as a blacksmith for R. Spann and Co., a wheelwright and motor body building company at Friars Green in Warrington. Their mother looked after the home.
Sadly, their mother Jessie died in 1924, aged 38 years.
During the 1930s the Smith family moved to South View in Hatton, and the next year to “Lynton” on Hatton Lane, where new houses had been built. By 1938 all four men in the family had appeared on the Electoral Roll.
The 1939 Register recorded Edward living with his father and two brothers at “Lynton”. Edward was employed as a fruit and grocery salesman, as was his brother Herbert Arthur. His father was a gardener and greengrocer, and his brother Horace was a newsagent and motor driver.
It is not known if Edward Smith ever married.
Edward Smith died in 1994 at Colwyn in Wales, at the age of 79 years.
E Smith appeared in the list of service men and women in Hatton in an article in the Parish Magazine for Daresbury in August 1946.
It is not known in which branch of H. M. Forces he served.
