Samuel was born around 1900 in Crewe and was the second son of Harry and Edith Gertrude Glenister (nee Wetton). Both his parents and elder brother, Harry, had all been born in Stafford and his father was working as a guard on the railways after having been a station porter. His brother, Harry, had been born around 1899.
By 1911 the family had moved to 18 Charlton Street, Latchford and there were two more children in the family, Harold Walter (born on the 8th October 1905) and Edith Margret (born on the 5th November 1907 ); sadly two more children had died in infancy.
The family then moved from Warrington to Station House in Preston Brook as Samuel’s father, still working for the railways, was promoted to station master.
On the 25th August 1913 Samuel’s brother, Walter, was admitted to Daresbury School from Preston Brook School to be followed by Edith on the 16th August 1915.
Samuel possibly served with the Somerset Light Infantry (number 30651) and then with the Hampshire Regiment (number 30062)
