He was killed in action near Ypres on 6 June 1917, aged 33. He is buried in Bedford House Cemetery, Belgium. A memorial to him was added to the family grave in Daresbury Churchyard.
Peter was posthumously awarded the British Empire Medal ‘For courage and self sacrifice in carrying out dangerous experiments’. This was recorded in the London Gazette of 8 January 1918.
Mary continued to live in Moore and in 1939 is recorded as living in Kelsall’s Cottages, Moss Lane. She died in 1946, aged 60 years.
