The memorial in All Saints’ churchyard was unveiled in 1920. It has stood the ravages of the English weather for over 100 years. It was looking old, dirty and sorry for itself. Added to that, much of the lead lettering had fallen off. We have successfully applied to the War Memorials’ Trust and our local parish councils for funding to renovate it. Over the past couple of weeks, it has been cleaned by a firm of specialist stonemasons and the paving stones around its base have been relaid. It looks quite different! The next phase will be to replace the lead letters that have fallen off. I’ll post more pictures when that work is completed.
