To all DDHG members and followers
Hello!
You may have seen my post on Facebook or the news post on our website, saying that we have decided to postpone the programme for DDHG indefinitely. We had no alternative in the face of Government advice during this Covid-19 pandemic.
However, we will continue to do what research we can into the history of our parish. Resources are limited to the internet and talking to villagers. Apart from the usual posts on Facebook and longer stories on the website, I’d like to include any snippets of information that you may discover. So please, send me any stories, however small, and pictures too, if possible. I think it is really important that we keep up our enthusiasm and share what we find with the wider community. We all need a diversion from Covid-19 over the next few months.
Just today, I heard a lovely story about pig swill and Moore Camp during WW2 and another about a show in Moore after the war involving rabbits and savings stamps – look out for the full stories on Facebook in the coming weeks!
If Heritage Open Days go ahead in September, the theme will be ‘Hidden Nature’. I wonder if you can help us over this too. Any pictures or titbits of information on gardens, landscapes, trees etc that could be used in our display or talk on the theme would be welcomed. I’d like to include some on our Facebook page too. Just to keep the interest going.
In a similar vein, we will continue to collect and share information about WW2 in the parish.
We had already prepared a draft programme for 2020/2021, but that will have to be put on hold for now. Valda’s talk about the Non Conformists and our AGM will take place at the start of the new programme. Whether the church fete will go ahead (and our usual display) is uncertain.
I’ll update you with more details as soon as I can.
In the meantime, keep safe, be happy and look after one another.
