Arthur Edmund (Edmond?) Moore was born on 5th October 1888 at Nantwich. He was the son of Joseph Jackson Moore (born Edge Hill, Liverpool) and his wife Phoebe (nee Spencer) who was born at Wrenbury near Nantwich. The father worked for the railways.
In 1891 the family were living at 13, Pedley Street in Monks Coppenhall in Crewe. The father was a railway traffic inspector and there were four children: Francis (10), John William (8), Anna Bella (5) and Arthur Edmond (1).
Ten years later the family now had two more children: Elizabeth (8) and Phoebe (7). They were still living in Monks Coppenhall and Joseph was still a railway traffic inspector.
They continued to live in the same house until after 1911 when Arthur Edmund was recorded as working as a labourer on the railway. His father was employed in the same job as before. John William was the only one who was recorded as not being at home and one of their seven children had died previously.
On 24th December 1914 Arthur married Edith Annie Kettle at the Register Office in Runcorn. He was 26 years old and she was 21 years old. Edith Annie had been born at Sutton Weaver. Arthur was working as a bridge painter at the time of the wedding.
Arthur appeared as an absent voter in Sutton Weaver in Spring 1919. He was recorded as being in 343 Home Service Work Company with a service number of 496850. Work Companies were formed during the Great War, intended primarily for defence duties. It would appear that there is no service record for Arthur.
Arthur and Edith had at least three children: Edith Lillian born in 1917, Joseph L. born in 1920 and Frederick H. born in 1923.
Arthur’s mother Phoebe passed away in 1938.
The 1939 Register showed that the family were living at a house situated between “Bay Cottage” and “Lyndon” on Chester Road in Sutton Weaver. Arthur was employed as a painter in a railway engineering maintenance department and Edith Annie was a housewife. Their daughter Edith was a gelatine factory worker, Joseph was an apprentice painter and decorator and Frederick was an apprentice plumber.
Arthur’s father passed away in 1946.
Arthur Edmund Moore died on 27th March 1955 whilst living at The Old Police Station on Chester Road in Sutton Weaver. He was 65 years old. He had been employed as a painter with British Railways. Edith Annie died on 11th April 1966 age 73 years.
