Alfred Wraith Bellamy was born in Mold, Flintshire, in 1893. His father was Walter Noel, an insurance agent who was born in Lincolnshire. His mother’s name was Louisa Mary, and she was born in Derby.
On the 1911 census, the family were living at Little Hall Lane Farm, Daresbury. Alfred was 17 years old, and working as a flour miller’s apprentice. At some time during the next few years they moved to Withington in Manchester.
Alfred Wraith Bellamy enlisted in the Manchester Regiment, and rose to the rank of 2nd. Lieut.
He was killed in action on 22nd October 1917, and is commemorated on one of the panels on the Tyne Cot Memorial. A board from Warrington Secondary School, which is now displayed in Warrington Library, also records his name along with other ‘Old Boys’ who lost their lives.
