Fred was born in Newton by Daresbury on the 27th August 1888, being the son of John (who had been born in Preston Brook and was working as a Railway Signalman) and Ellen (who came from Sandbach). Fred had seven siblings :- Harry, Mary Alice, Gertrude, John (junior), Gladys, Annie and Constance. The family lived at the Chester Road Lodge .
The 1911 Census shows Fred working as a footman to the widow Annie Davies at Treborth, Bangor, North Wales.
During WW1 Fred was in the Royal Field Artillery (R.F.A.) attached to the 6th D.A.C. with the Regimental No. 118376, as shown by the Absent Voters List (Spring) 1919. His family home is listed as Delph Cottages, Newton by Daresbury.
Fred married Helen Littler (b.1900), also from Newton by Daresbury, at Daresbury Parish Church on the 3rd August 1929.
Fred aged 49, passed away on the 16th November 1937 being survived by Helen. He was listed as being a Builders Labourer and they were living at the Oakland Cottages, Preston Brook.
