Stanley Watson done was born in Hatton on 19th April 1896 and baptised at Daresbury on 19th July that year. He was the son of John Henry Done (born Stretton) and his wife Martha (nee Povey) who had been born in Hatton.
In 1901 he was living with his parents and his older siblings Dennis (16) and Elizabeth (14). His father was a brick and pipe maker. Dennis would also serve in the Great War.
By ten years later they had moved to South View in Hatton and Dennis and Elizabeth had left home. His father was now employing others in brick and pipe making and Stanley (now aged 14) was himself working at the brickworks.
Stanley served as a Private in the Manchester Regiment, service number 302250 and having been recorded as an absent voter in Hatton in 1918, he was back as a resident by 1919. He was awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal for his service in the Great War. It is not known which theatre of war he served in.
In 1920 he married Annie Pettingale at Stockport and they had a son, Eric. Within a few years they had left Hatton.
The 1939 Register recorded the family as living at 8, Warwick Drive in Sale. Stanley was a heavy goods motor driver and his son was a newspaper reporter.
Stanley Watson Done died in late 1979 in Manchester, three years before Annie passed away. He was 83 years of age.
