Richard Heakin was born in 1894 in Sheriffhales, Shropshire, the son of Richard and Mary Jane. He was baptised on 28 October that year.
His father was a farm labourer. In 1901 they were living in Ditherington and in 1911 in Wellington. By the beginning of the war, the family must have moved to Keckwick as Richard (senior) and his sons Richard and Samuel, appear on the Daresbury Roll of Honour. Both Richard and his father were farm labourers.
Richard enlisted into the King’s Shropshire Light Infantry and he became a lieutenant captain. His regimental numbers were 2083 and 200541. Nothing more is known of his military service.
In 1922, he married Hilda Jones. No record has been found of any children.
Richard died in 1937, aged 42 years. His widow continued to live in Moore and in 1939, her address was Cartref, Runcorn Road.
